OSAGE BEACH, MISSOURI (Jan. 25, 2024) – The Missouri Cattlemen's Association recognized John Tummons, Columbia, Mo., as the 2023 Leadership Development Award recipient at the 56th Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show held Jan. 19-20 in Osage Beach. The MCA Leadership Development Award was formed to acknowledge individuals who are dedicated to growing and expanding the association and creating new leaders within the industry.
Tummons joined the Division of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources College of Agriculture in 2009 as an instructor and then later became an assistant teaching professor in 2015. Tummons has dedicated his life to developing the next generation of agriculturalists. He has spent countless hours volunteering for organizations like MCA to take leadership development event even further.
Three years ago, MCA developed the replacement heifer show and sale in conjunction with Show-Me Select. To call this initiative a success is an understatement, and it is due in large part to the dedication of committed volunteers like Tummons.
“Tummons leadership and dedication to educating the young leaders of the agricultural industry is unwavering,” said 2021 MCA President Patty Wood. “He is very deserving of this award because he strengthens the youth of our industry who are the foundation of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association.”
