COLUMBIA, MISSOURI (April 13, 2021) - The Missouri Junior Cattlemen’s Association is proud to announce the first annual MJCA Replacement Heifer Show & Sale. New in 2021, the program was developed to further involve youth in the Missouri cattle industry and provide them an opportunity to present and sell their cattle.

"These pen shows have seen much success in other states for young cattle enthusiasts. As a committee in a state that is second in cattle production, we decided we should incorporate this exhibition to include all cattle producers in the state of Missouri," said Kevin Johansen, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association Replacement Heifer Show & Sale Committee Chairman.

The event will take place at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO, June 10-12, 2021. Arrival begins 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 10. All animals must be checked in by 9 a.m. on Friday, June 11. The show will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday evening with the sale taking place on Saturday afternoon prior to the Cattlemen's Steak Fry

"Following the guidelines set by leading replacement heifer programs instills the quality of the heifers and reduces the learning curve of expectations," Johansen said. "This can be a great program going forward for opportunities of more participation by young cattle producers in Missouri."

Each entry will be comprised of two open or bred heifers. Exhibitors will be limited to a maximum of two pens each. There must be a minimum of 10 pens entered by the May 14 registration deadline for the event to take place. Exhibitors must be a current resident of Missouri, enrolled in a public or private elementary or secondary school, a minimum of eight years old by show day and no older than 21 as of January 1, 2021, and a member of the Missouri Junior Cattlemen’s Association.

Entry forms must be submitted for heifers no later than Friday, May 14, 2021. Forms must be accompanied by an IRS Form W-9, an entry fee of $25/pen and $10/head bedding fee, and pedigree information.
