OSAGE BEACH, MISSOURI (Jan. 21, 2021) - Missouri cattle producers attended a Cattlemen's Education Series during the 53rd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show. The Cattlemen's Education Series is sponsored by National Corn Growers Association and National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
Benjamin Brown, is the owner and General Manager of Satchmo's Bar & Grill in St. Louis County and has spent much of the last year fighting to help restaurants in his community survive the pandemic. He has successfully advocated for regulation reform to the benefit of restaurants across the state. He keynoted a session regarding "COVID’s Impact on the Restaurant Industry."
"St Louis County was ground zero for some of the issues that arose in the restaurant industry that, in turn, impacted the beef industry," Brown said. "I talked about how restaurants have been affected by COVID-related regulations and some of the different ways they've had to adapt, as well as that interconnectivity between the two industries. A lot of people don't realize the significance of the food service industry and its impact on agriculture."
Other sessions included Price Discovery is a Cow/Calf Issue; Cattle Disease Traceability, Securing our Beef Supply, What the Data Says About Your Cattle, The Risk Management Toolbox, the Missouri Department of Agriculture's Meat Processing: Farm to Fork; and a general session with guest speakers Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO) and Congresswoman Deb Fischer (NE).
The annual convention, which concluded Sunday, Jan. 10, is hosted by MCA; Missouri's Cattlemen Foundation; Missouri CattleWomen; Missouri Beef Industry Council; and the Missouri Junior Cattlemen's Association.
