MCA County Affiliates Receive Recognition

OSAGE BEACH, MISSOURI (Jan. 16, 2022) - The Missouri Cattlemen's Association recognized five county affiliates for their strong membership and diligent efforts in promoting the cattle industry. The awards were presented during the 54th Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show, January 7-9, in Osage Beach.   

The Southwest Missouri Cattlemen's Association was named Outstanding County Affiliate for increasing the involvement of their members at the county and state. This county also made strives to be more engaged with the community by making monetary and beef donations to local backpack programs and school fundraisers. The county affiliate received a Gallagher TW-3 Weigh Scale set valued at $3,600.    

The St. Clair County Cattlemen's Association was recognized as Runner-Up Outstanding County Affiliate. This county has mastered keeping its membership informed through monthly correspondence and meetings featuring guest speakers. They also supported local consumers by hosting informative beef events at local grocery stores and sharing virtual resources through the pandemic. The county affiliate received a MiraFount water tank from Gallagher valued at $700.    

The SEMO Cattlemen's Association was named Outstanding Affiliate for Beef Promotion. The affiliate actively seeks opportunities to share and serve beef at local community events, grocery stores and fundraisers, including every Saturday through May at a local hardware store using a different cut each week. They also held radio promotions with giveaways to encourage winners to buy beef from local restaurants and provided beef sticks to area schools’ backpack programs.   

Outstanding Affiliate Activity/Event went to the I-35 Cattlemen's Association. This county affiliate facilitated the I-35 Cattleman’s Night at The Pearl. This event was created to spur interest in the association and raise funds to support local industry youth. In its second year, the event was attended by over 250 people and raised more than $20,000, as well as helping double their membership in the past year.    

Outstanding Affiliate Policy Involvement went to the Lafayette County Cattlemen's Association. This county affiliate frequently sends membership to Cowboys at the Capitol each spring and hosted an Ag and Rural Issues Roundtable to discuss important industry topics. This year, they also rallied together to encourage Congressman Emanuel Cleaver to co-sponsor the Optimizing the Cattle Market Act led by Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler.   

"Without strong county cattlemen's organizations like these, the state association would not be nearly as successful," MCA 2021 President Patty Wood said. "The Missouri Cattlemen's Association is fortunate to have great affiliates representing the beef cattle industry in Missouri."
