COLUMBIA, MISSOURI (Jan. 11, 2020) - Missouri cattle producers attended a Cattlemen's Education Series today during the 52nd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show. The Cattlemen's Education Series is sponsored by National Corn Growers Association and National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
Don Nikodim, executive vice president of the Missouri Pork Association, moderated a session entitled "Fighting Fear Mongering County by County." Represented on the panel was a legislator, an attorney and a professional consultant.
"The topic is key in that it's been an ongoing process that's been our way for a long time," Nikodim said. "The activist groups have seized the opportunity to misinform and misdirect a lot of County governmental bodies into doing these County health ordinances. And they brought that to light today: some of the reasons, rationale for what's actually happened out there and how the Senate bill three 91 was a direct effort to put things back on an even playing field. Good discussion, good information presented and very timely.
Other sessions included Roosted Killers - The Impact of Black Vultures; Grazing Management 101; Putting Numbers to Work for You; D.C. Update; Animal Disease Traceability; Missouri Department of Agriculture's Reach MORE Tour; and a general session keynoted by DV Auction's Corbitt Wall.
The annual convention, which concludes Sunday, Jan. 12, is hosted by MCA; Missouri's Cattlemen Foundation; Missouri CattleWomen; Missouri Beef Industry Council; and the Missouri Junior Cattlemen's Association.
