2018 Show- Me Beef Tour
August 24-26, 33 MJCA members from across the state and attended the third annual Show-Me Beef Tour. This year, we traveled to Southeast Missouri for a weekend that was jam-packed with various farm tours and fun activities!
The trip began on Friday with a visit to Tribute Farms in Benton, Missouri, a dairy farm where members learned about their 1,500-head operation, and then wrapped up their day at Byrd Creek Farms in Jackson, Missouri, a family-owned Berkshire hog operation.
Members were up bright and early on Saturday morning for a trip to Flickerwood, a sawmill in Jackson that produces mostly pine shavings for retailers in the area. They continued their day at Steinbecker Livestock, a feedlot in Perryville, Missouri where Dave Steinbecker taught members about the importance of calf health, early illness detection, and routine vaccinations. After a much-anticipated afternoon of throwed rolls and pass-arounds at Lambert’s Cafe, members stopped to visit Jackson Egg Company where they learned about the importance of social media and creative marketing in businesses. The busy Saturday was finally complete after a tour of Butch’s Angus in Jackson where members had the pleasure of meeting Butch Meier, past MCA President and dedicated MCA member who discussed the importance of joining organizations and networking with industry leaders.
The tour ended on Sunday with a visit to Southeast Missouri State University’s agriculture farm.
As you can see, the Show-Me Beef Tours go beyond the beef industry, demonstrating the diversity of agriculture and showing how each aspect of the industry is connected. The tour truly is a great opportunity to explore agriculture in different regions of the state as well as meet fellow MJCA members who share some of your same interests! Interested in attending the Beef Tours next August or how to stay involved with MJCA? You can find registration forms and other information on the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association webpage. Hope to see you there!
